Autumnal MelancholyWritten by: Anne Bolender

I looked at my calendar the other day and was surprised to see that it was already the first of November. Where had October gone?? Where has this year gone!!?!!

So many things I had wanted to accomplish this year have remained firmly etched on my ‘to do’ list.

And for some reason, October just vanished! It’s not like there wasn’t a lot of things happening in October – there was the Canadian Thanksgiving, Hallowe’en, I even had two weeks holidays – but motivation, focus and creativity seemed to have failed me. Big time!!

Have you ever have that experience? Focus and motivation completely out the window!! Creativity not to be found anywhere, no matter how hard you try?? And Clarity, well – lets just say that sometimes it can be very easy to lose sight of what we want and how we want to get there! To let go of how we want to feel and give in to the numbness.

I thought it was going to take several weeks, at least a box or two of the finest Belgian chocolates I could find, and some good old retail therapy to turn this mood around. Fortunately it’s been far less costly than I had expected.

It seems that, at least for me, creativity demands some downtime every once in a while to re-energize and revitalize. Rest, relaxation and lavish doses of self-care were just what my creativity needed.

So last week I created a daily ritual for myself that has slowly and steadily pulled me out of my fall funk. Every day I make the time: to go for a walk; to write; to do something that honours at least one of my core values; and to play. Nothing strenuous, nothing expensive, just a powerful daily ritual that is working.

My creativity is returning (I can’t wait to start sharing some of the delicious and powerful materials I have been creating for this blog and my newsletter!!), my clarity is sparkling like never before, and my manifesting mojo has returned!! The autumn melancholy has lifted 🙂

Do you ever find yourself lacking motivation or focus? If you do, what do you do to overcome this melancholy?
